One of a Kind - 'Persephone' - Bead Embroidery Necklace with Swarovski Crystals

Abducted by Hades, King of the underworld, Persephone is the daughter of Zeus and the harvest goddess Demeter. She is the queen and goddess of the Underworld, springtime, vegetation and maidenhood.

I have taken my colour inspiration from the crocuses and daffodils and fresh green grass of spring, with the addition of black to represent the underworld. The Swarovski Crystal Paradise Shine crystals change from purple to yellow to green and reflect the Miyuki Heavy Metals seed beads and additional Swarovski Erinite crystals. I used the pale Swarovski bicones to represent raindrops.

Stiches: Bead embroidery, RAW, peyote and freeform.

Materials: Miyuki Heavy Metals No.11 and No.15. Miyuki Matt Black No.11, Miyuki Matt black Delica Beads, Swarovski flatbacks, large crystals, chatons, pearls and bicones.

'Persephone' was created for the Battle of the Beadsmith 2015. It is a unique and one of kind design and cannot, nor ever will, be duplicated. I am very proud that she made it to the second round of the 'Battle', as this the third year I have been invited to participate.

Techniques used: Freeform peyote, bead embroidery, peyote, right angle weave (RAW), and my own crystal 'captures'.
Time taken: 4 weeks (I have no idea of the true ‘hours’ as I find it limiting to count them when I work!)

This stunning piece was created as a 'work of art' as well as a wearable piece of jewellery. The number of crystals contained within it create a myriad of shimmering sparkles in any light. Every possible care has been taken in its construction and I have used only the very finest materials.
